About the Maker:
I was born in Denmark in 1962 and followed the natural
progression of boyhood interest, knives, bows and arrows,
airguns and finally "real" firearms.
Getting
into competitive handgun shooting in my early twenties, I
started a decade long pilgrimage travelling to the US
to participate in big matches such as The Steel Challenge,
Second Chance, American Handgunner World Shoot Off...etc.
Due
to necessity I started to do custom pistolsmithing and
also ran my own firearms business; this helped to support
me as I completed my BA degree in Mechanical Engineering.
During
one of my visits to the US I met with Bill Wilson and
was offered a job at Wilson Combat. I spent over 8 years
as the Director of Research and Development at WC and
had the opportunity to work with some of the best 1911
pistolsmiths in the country, a very rewarding period
in my life.
The
idea to make a 50 cal. 1911 pistol came to me while
studying for my engineering degree in Denmark, but with
the very strict legislation on handgun ownership in
most of Europe I never took it any further. However,
it never left my mind - a 50 caliber pistol that was
controllable and executed according to John Moses
Browning's classic 1911 design would be a truly great
self defense pistol.
In 2002 I resigned from WC to pursue my dream and
formed Guncrafter Industries. Contrary to what many
people might think, the shooting industry is rather
small and with many behind -the-scenes collaborations.
I discovered that I had built up a lot of goodwill
over the years and this was now being returned
to me as all the pieces of the puzzle came together.
After
2 years of prototyping and R/D work, we were ready
to "go public" and the Model No. 1 in 50 GI cal. was
introduced at the 2004 Shot Show, the Model No. 2
followed about 6 months late.
The
response was overwhelming, a classic case of "be careful
what you ask for - you might get it". Starting
a new company is hard work, but whenever time
allows I continue to shoot competitively; among other
shooting accomplishments I have won the National
IDPA Stock Revolver Championships 7 times consecutively.
I
believe my background as a pistolsmith, mechanical
engineer and competitive shooter gives me an edge
when applied to the design and making of firearms
and parts.
As
Guncrafter Industries expands its repertoire the focus
will remain on innovation, quality and top notch
craftsmanship.
At
your service,
Alex
