Some pistols are built to be carried. The Renaissance is built to be admired, and it shoots as well as every pistol we make.

The finish. Choose deep hot salt blue or bright stainless steel.

  • Hot salt blue is the traditional finish of fine firearms, and one of the most labor-intensive. Before the pistol goes into the bluing tanks, its surfaces are hand-polished to a mirror shine. Every flat stays flat and every edge stays crisp, because bluing magnifies flaws. The steel is then immersed in heated bluing salts, which convert its surface into a deep, lustrous blue-black. The finish is part of the steel itself, not a coating sprayed over it. Done right, it has a richness no modern coating can copy, and it sets off hand engraving like nothing else.

  • Stainless offers a bright, clean alternative. It's polished to show every line of the engraving.

The engraving. The "B" pattern on the slide is cut entirely by hand, not lasered, stamped or rolled on. Each line is cut into the steel with hand gravers, one stroke at a time. The engraver lays out the design to follow the slide's contours, then cuts the scroll so it flows from muzzle to rear serrations. Shading and depth are judged by eye and hand. No two Renaissance slides are exactly alike, so the pistol you receive is one of a kind. Hand engraving is one of the oldest arts in gunmaking, and it is the clearest mark of a pistol made by people, not machines.

The rest of the pistol is finished to match. Ball end mill cuts, a flush-cut slide stop and a chamfered frame give it clean, classic lines. Chain link checkering dresses the front strap and mainspring housing. A gold bead front sight catches the light over a U-notch rear, framed by fine wood grips.

Under the artistry is the same hard-working pistol that carries the Guncrafter Industries name. Forged steel frame and slide. A match-grade stainless barrel, flush cut and deep crowned, with a fluted chamber. A fully machined tool steel hammer, sear and disconnector. Every edge is dehorned. Then every pistol goes through our Extreme Reliability Work. The feeding path and the parts that drive the pistol's function are refined and tuned by hand, so it feeds, fires and ejects reliably. Two magazines are fitted and tuned to it. A pistol this beautiful still has to run, and the Renaissance does.

Plenty of options are available, but the Renaissance is balanced and complete as it ships. It delivers this level of detail for far less than comparable custom pistols. Have a particular set of custom grips in mind? Call us, and we'll help you get every detail right.
